We began by thoroughly understanding Lightning Craft's vision, goals, and target audience. Through close communication, we gathered valuable insights into their specific requirements and the unique aspects of their electric boat motors.

Once the initial design direction was established, our we worked diligently to bring the UX to life. We leveraged our technical expertise to implement intuitive controls, and real-time data visualisation, all while ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness.

The idea to showcase was formed quickly with a sketch. I love using sketches to show clients ideas quickly. From there we move into prototyping tools to give a more high resolution version of the idea and make any updates before building. 

These initial designs were enough to provide a solid direction for the build (we use sketched and low res designs to get the basics right before moving into development or a more sophisticated design).

Steve is instantly noticeable with this dark colour scheme. We loved the huge amount of contrast between Steve and the background. The lines on the ground give a sense that this is some sort of workshop and you're looking at a prototype Steve. 

Movement was so important for Steve. After the colours were honed we worked on making sure Steve's movement was right. If you look closely at the site, even when the mouse is stationary Steve is still moving just a little. This really makes him feel more alive!

We played around with some other colour schemes and ideas, but not all of them made the cut. Here are a few that didn't make it (and some that did).

I really wanted to create something playful here. Swirly Steve has bags of of character so we wanted to get that across as much as possible. Personifying him at every possible occasion really makes him come across as super cute!

The first thing you'll notice about Lightning Craft when talking to Josh is their passion for the environment. They've created a product that can move customers away from diesel engines and towards a cleaner alternative, and they're proud of it. 

It was important for Lightning Craft however to understate their environmental credentials, ensuring they were not 'greenwashing', but truly making a difference. 

We really appreciated this direction and ensured we focused on the product and the real measurable actions they were making. 

We worked with Lightning Craft to create a minimal and modern design that pulls focus to the product, but also shows off their existing builds and emphasises the strong brand already in place (with the addition of the orange colour which we introduced to create a strong accent colour for the brand).

Sanity is a powerful CMS used by companies like Nike, Figma and SONOS. It allows collaborative editing has a modern interface and multi-user login with Google (so no more "admin" passwords!). 

Sanity allows us to build websites faster and have them be more flexible and extensible than with other tools such as Wordpress.  

We use an Agile development practice, delivering sections of the site at regular intervals. We met with Josh each week to discuss what had been built, to discuss any updates and accommodate any changes. All the time Lightning Craft could use the latest link to view the site.

Josh Masters

From the first meeting to pressing the publish button, Carefully Coded were highly professional and concise in the web design process. They laid out each step, allowing feedback and discussion wherever needed. Attention to detail was on point and the artistic style with which they assembled the website was impressive! If you are looking for a contemporary yet practical service and product then this is the company for you.

Electric motors for boats

Using conversion metrics and churn, TP had come to the conclusion that their existing TP+ app was not creating an easy to use experience for customers. The app's users had simple aims: to receive card payments, view existing products and transactions, and to create reports. However these processes were more convoluted than they could be.

We worked with TakePayments to understand exactly what about the app users were finding confusing and to simplify those processes with a contemporary design style. TakePayments are a well established brand in the card payments industry and they needed an app that reflected that. 

One of the most important areas we focused on was the 'Quicktill' and 'Products' features, which allows businesses to take a payment without the need to setup products. Customers loved this feature in the old app, but rarely used its advanced features as they were tucked away in a complex UX. Now they are brought front and centre with a simple UI.

The most important part of the redesign process for TakePayments was to improve onboarding. 

The onboarding process involved lots of communication with the customer via phone or email, in order to relay information such as their customer number, pas password etc. In close collaboration with the development team we devised a UX which would allow users to onboard themselves through the app with ease. 

This reduced the user setup cost for TakePayments, but also improved user's own experience of the process. 

App UX design

Oakley have a minimal brand, with only two colours (white and a black), which is lovely to work with.

Sticking with the minimal look, we kept black as the primary colour and leant heavily on a grey colour for anything that wasn't meant to stand out as much.

Getting the right images is so important for a design. Oakley have some really nice photos of their products. Mostly 3D renderings with perfectly white backgrounds, which make the colours really pop and helped massively with the places we could take the design.

This is only a concept with two screens, but it gives an idea of where it could be taken.

App UX concept

The current DPD app is clean and simple, with only a few small changes the whole app becomes much easier to use.  

I love how DPD are following Amazon to track deliveries down to the current stop the driver is on. With a bit of UI magic it could be even better!

Aerial photography is an exciting and dynamic way to showcase properties and has become increasingly popular.
