We had worked with Lightning Craft before, and they trusted us to steer this project from start to finish, building a boat control dashboard for their line of electric motors - we love these type of projects as we can really... push the boat out... (you were warned)
Sailing in the day, or at night. It was a core requirement that the display be able to handle both daytime and night-time operations. The best way to handle this is night-mode! A darker screen to reduce glare at night.
The display used has just four buttons. This meant we had to design a super-simple interaction method, with button icons shown at the bottom directly above the physical buttons on the display.
These buttons change depending on what's happening on the display, so we can get complex functionality like this scrolling menu from just a few buttons.
